THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I can't thank you enough for all of your good wishes, support and donations. In this odd year of Covid, I was worried that the Rally the Valley fundraiser might not do as well as they had hoped, but the fundraising was definitely a success!

----

I'm a cyclist. I was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in early October of 2017. My last long ride prior to my diagnosis was 41.5 miles, while training for a 108 mile event.

I've endured chemo, radiation and ultimately surgery and too many months of bed rest and recovery. Through the help of Integrated Therapies and the entire team at the Callaway-Young Cancer Center, I'm pleased to report that, as of the last scan in June, I'm cancer free.

These caring and compassionate health care providers helped me on the long road from treatment, to recovery, to once again enjoying my bicycle.

I can't ridBack on the bike!e as far or as long as I'd like, but I can still ride!

I'd like you to help support Rally the Valley and donate now, as I attempt to ride 41.5 miles on September 12, 2020. This will be my longest ride since my diagnosis and cure. I'd like you to donate $1.415 (one dollar and 41 1/2 cents) for each mile I ride, with a cap of 41.5 miles. That's $58.72 for the mathematically challenged, and your donation will be doubled by the matching gifts from Rick and Linda Keister. Of course $2.41 ($100.05) or $3.41 ($141.15) per mile or more would be greatly appreciated!

I'd be happy for any company if you'd like to ride along with me to Ride the Valley for the Rally! I'll be leaving the Henry Stein Park in Aspen at around 8:30 AM on the 12th, taking the Rio Grande trail down to Glenwood, ending at the portico of the Callaway-Young Cancer Center at Valley View Hpspital. It should take around 3 hours.  Please drop me a note in the comments section on the donation page if you'll join me.

Check back on this page often - I'll post additional details as the date for the ride approaches!

Thanks to the Valley the Rally folks for featuring my fundraiser. I also thank everyone who has donated to date! I just recorded a video about who I rally for - and it's funny - I don't remember the 'bad' stuff, but what sticks with me is the memory of the nurses, physician assistants, doctors,  radiation techs and therapists that greeted me each day with empathy and smiles. It's for all cancer patients and those who care for them that I rally.

More emails have been sent about the ride, and I hope to have additional folks riding with me to support Integrated Therapies!  Below is the poster that was created advertising the ride. See you on the 12th!

September 12 - Well the ride is finished 41.6 miles! - Special thanks to Darryl Grosjean who rode the entire distince with me! We left Aspen at 8:46 AM - 42 degrees, but we were soon in the sun. The balloons were beautiful over Snowmass. It was a quick ride, (though it didn't seem so to me : )  as my cycling computer showed an average speed of 16.1 mph, with total time of 3.5 hours, of which 2.5 hours was riding time - A nice leisurely ride down valley from Aspen. We stopped at the CMC turnoff to shed several layers - the weather cooperated and, other than a couple of cold ears, it was great.

All in all, I accomplished the two goals that I wanted for this event. The first goal was raising money for Integrated Therapies. Thanks everyone, for your contributions. Of course the second goal was to prove to myself that I could go the distance. This goal was difficult, but certainly within my reach. And I was successful.

It's time for a nap, then off to help and take some photos of the livestream event. I'll be posting more pictures of the ride later.
